Many type of cells can be synchronized by manipulating the growth conditon.

• For cells that depend on serum for growth, starve the cells of serum for 24-48 hours, and then change to fresh media with serum.
• For bacteria, fungi, algae grown to stationary phase, simply dilute/change to fresh medium.
• Amino acid starvation.
• Heat shock and temperature shift.
